MOTORIN' MEMORIES continued

My Friend’s Mom Car Was A Mushroom on Wheels

My friend had to use her Mom's old tan Subaru wagon many moons ago after her mustang died. This car ran but it was clapped out. She would come over to my apartment and pick me up sometimes and we'd go out clubbing and what not. This car had a damp/moldy odor...it had leaks and the defrost was shot to hell. After months of driving this thing in it's questionable condition it had begun to take on new life of it's own by producing fungi! It started on the sun visors and worked it's way onto the sides of the car, the seat belts and so on. This car was too interesting to stay untitled as it became such a hot topic of conversation between us and our friends. We called it the "Shroomobile". She continued to drive it, how I don't know you couldn't see through the windshield half the time. Ultimately, she ended up not being able to see one too many times as luck ran out and drove it off a country road, down an embankment and rolled it several times...landing where else? In a pile of grass and mushrooms..and the car died there happily ever after. We still laugh today about that car and are thankful my friend was not hurt on the Shroomobile's final voyage.

ALICE

1965 Buick Le Sabre with a Wild Cat Engine

I worked very hard to get that car. An old couple had only driven it to church on Sundays and it was in pristine condition. You didn't have to have the keys in it while driving. You could just start it and take them out. It had these vent knobs that you pulled out and a current of wind would rush in. It didn't have power brakes. A week after I got it my brother ripped the top when I left him and my other brother in the car alone for maybe 5 minutes. A month later I also backed into a telephone pole and it made a dent in the trunk. The thing is like driving a boat, it is gigantic. The best thing about the car is that it had bench seats. You could lay your head in the lap of the driver and it was very comfy. You could also sleep in it and do other things in complete comfort. I lived in that car and its name was Alice. Alice was passed onto my brother free of charge, years later. As he was turning a corner, the axle broke in half. No injuries, but Alice was finally out of commission.
